What should you ask?Wondering what to ask your painting contractor? Check out these 5 must-ask painting questions in our latest blog post:

Hiring a painting contractor is certainly a big decision. Paint brings your home to life and gives it that finishing touch that makes all the difference. With so many options on the market, it can be hard to choose the right painter. To make narrowing down your list easier, we’ve created a set of must-ask painting questions when interviewing any painting contractor.

  1. Do you have insurance?

By hiring a painting contractor with insurance, you protect yourself and your assets from a lawsuit or fees caused by injuries and/or damages. A contractor without general liability insurance puts you and your home at risk. As it’s always better to be safe than sorry, be sure to get copies of these certificates and reach out to the insurance companies to make sure everything is up-to-date.

  1. What about a license?

Check with the consumer protection agencies and the Department of Business and Professional Regulation in your state to find out about licensing requirements. Your contractor should meet these requirements and ideally belong to trade organizations or the Better Business Bureau.

  1. Do you offer a warranty?

Many painting materials will come with a guarantee. However, the cost of labor far outweighs the cost of materials, so you want to make sure your painter offers some sort of warranty. Ideally, he or she will cover any further work needed due to problematic materials or labor.

  1. Who will manage my project?

It is not uncommon to meet with a different person for your project estimate and for the actual performance of your project. These roles have different functions. However, it is important that you meet the painting contractor and the person in charge of your project. The company should have a plan for seeing it through to eliminate confusion and delays.

  1. What materials do you and your team use?

Quality matters. The level of workmanship is critical, but the materials used will certainly affect how the finished project looks and endures. Talk to your painting contractor about the materials that will be used including the paints, stains, coatings, caulk, etc.
